Love Deeply
November 7th, 2022
Building relationships that are deeper than the surface.
I hate vulnerability.
I also hate talking about my problems with others because I worry I will be a burden to them. These things have caused a lot of surface-level friendships in my life.
We’re friends for a while, but then I am never able to truly open up to them, so the friendship never goes deep enough to stick.
As more friends come and go, this makes it even harder for me to open up and get real with my people.
Thankfully, some of my friends have still stuck it out for the long haul.
These people teach me how to love deeper.
I have more friends that teach me how to love deeper than just the ones in the photos above.
However, Paige, Emma and Lizzie have stuck with me through the highs and the lows of my life since we were kids. We did summer camp, youth group, Sunday school, High School, and just plain life together.
They have supported me through my most vulnerable moments by remaining loyal and always being there if I needed a shoulder to cry on.
These people foster an environment of trust while encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and just have fun.
For an introvert and enneagram 6, reaching out is so hard.
Trusting my feelings and darkest moments to those who are outside of myself and God is overwhelming.
But friends, it is worth it.
Why? Because we all need people.
(More of my great people featured below!)
The Bible says in James 5:16, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
When we live life alone, we don’t have accountability or anyone to challenge us to grow.
We don’t have encouragers or people to encourage.
To be in meaningful relationships with others means we can help each other overcome the things that burden us.
I know I’m not the best friend in the world. My advice isn’t always solid, I am not good at long-distance communication, and I have made stupid mistakes that I know hurt my friends. But my people stand by me, offering so much grace.
They know who I truly am.
So, even if it’s hard, find your people. Find those people that will stand by your side through the highs and lows of life.
We are not meant to live this life alone.
